“Sometimes you can be so clueless!” Shizuka Kudo screams at her husband
of five years. She quickly grabs her purse and the car keys and leaves
the house the pair of them has shared for over seven.
“I just want it to be over!” Kimura Takuya recalls her yelling at him, after he makes a comment at how lucky and happy he is to be working with Matsu Takako again.
Kimura sits. He does wish for that. Just end it all. Get it done with for good. Shizuka Kudo has always been hysterical whenever Kimura talks about other women. It was a part of his job, in the drama’s to be close with his female counterparts. When Shizuka found out he would be working with Matsu again she threw a fit. Can’t really blame her, they did have a long time working relationship and for a while there it was something more, but Matsu was always looking out for number one, her career.
That’s why Kimura liked Shizuka best, he was her number one. Call it a bit unfair but Shizuka put her career and life on hold for him and at the same time, Kimura wanted no one but her. But the little things that they usually fought over seemed to be getting bigger and although neither seemed to voice it, He was getting a little scared.
Kokomi came from down the hallway and took a hold of her father’s hand. She smiled and asked where her Mother went. Kimura took a hold of her and held her close and said she went out for the mail. And Kokomi gave her father a kiss.
Later that night Shizuka came home and undressed and got on the bed beside Kimura.
“I love you. I’m sorry”
Kimura shut his eyes and held his breath. Her words. They meant nothing.
“Are you awake?”
“No.” Kimura answered and turned to look at her, she gave a dazzling smile and stroked his face. “Don’t you love me?”Shizuka asked.
“Yes.” He lied. Even the way he said it, it sounded like a lie.

"I'll let you know," she responded as she took a hold of the car keys and stopping only a few feet from her daughter she paused and looked down at Kokomi their eldest and gave a smirk. ""I do hope you enjoy your summer." was all she said as she walked out.
Kokomi was more startled with the look her mother gave her and watched as she walked out the door. Her father Kimura Takuya was sitting at the kitchen table, now obviously annoyed he looked back at Kokomi and lot out his smoke. He went right up to her and told her his mother wouldn't be around for a while and left it at that.
"So she left!" Shingo grinned wickedly and he pressed Kimura for the news.
"Don't say it like that!" Kimura winced as he looked around for a cup of coffee. He was in the break room located in the studio where they did the taping for SMAP X SMAP and he was alone with Shingo and he was grateful for that because Shingo could't keep a secret was making no attempt to with this news.
"No one knows. So don't be telling everyone." Kimura said rubbing his neck, his eyes looking up at the clock. "So I don't know how the girls are going to get along. We could always hire help." Kimura pulled a face and shuddered.
Shingo nudged Kimura, "Let's go look for women this summer!"
Kimura grew serious immediately and gave Shingo a look, "JESUS. My marriage isn't over! She just needs some time to herself."
"Don't go looking for trouble.." Goro said softly as we walked in.
"YOU HEARD!" Kimura shouted giving Shingo a glare.
Goro took off his jacket and kept looking at the floor, "Your both loud enough." Goro sighed and went to get a cup of tea.
Shingo asked to no one in the room, "What's with him?"
Goro laughed and shook his head, "I just think it's funny. Your making jokes about finding some women, but you all give me the third degree when I get caught with some fan at a bar."
"FANS? Is that what your calling them now? You were caught fair and square but Miho-san no less with a bar girl! Not once, NOT TWICE, but three times! The things you put Miho-san through it terrible." Kimura said firmly to Goro as he went to refill his cup of coffee, "cheating maybe has been your style, but flaunting it is truly beneath you!"
Goro kepting looking at the floor and all he could say in return was, "It wasn't flaunting. I just always got caught." and with that he left the room.
"Why are we fighting?" Shingo asked, "Kimura this is all YOUR fault!"Shingo stepped backwards and grabbed Goro's jacket and left the room.
After the taping of the day's episode Nakai was screaming at his bandmates, "THIS WASN'T 100% EFFORT! TODAY WHAT WE DID WAS TRASH. THIS ISN'T HOW SMAP WORKS!" No one said anything in reply, they just sat and listen to Nakai ranting about the lack of effort, the lack of a team and just the general vibe of it all.
"It's because Shizuka's gone and left him!" Shingo pointed at Kimura.
Nakai almost fell to the ground, he was in mid-rant and grew wide eyed and serious. "Shizuka's gone? She left the house?"
"For the summer." was all Kimura said.
Nakai took a hand to cover his face. His face held many expressions of embarrassment and anxiety, and first he was embarrassed at how he secretly felt about this. He had admired and loved Shizuka for a long time but she made her choice with Kimura and then he felt anxiety and he didn't want Kimura or anyone else to know he still had these feelings deep down inside him. "I should go." was all he said but was stopped as Kimura stood up, "Don't bother. I was just leaving." and with that he left the room.
A few days later Kimura was leaving a hotel alone and there was the media outside. There was a large group and all had pounced on Kimura asking questions about just where was Shizuka and why the kids were missing school. Kimura just smiled weakly but said nothing and got into his car and went home.
"Thanks for watching the girls."
Matsu Takako gave a half-hearted nod and handed Kimura the mail. "It isn't a big deal. I had some time off and you know I love the girls." She watched at Kimura looked at the mail, he picked up a postcard from the bunch and threw it straight to the garbage.
"Your aren't going to read that?" Takako said as he watched him threw it away.
"You and I both know what it says." Kimura said slowly and Takako grew flushed because she did indeed read it and walked hurriedly down the hallway.
Kimura followed, "Where are you going?"
Takako took her purse and slipped on her shoes. "I should go, it's late and.."
Kimura took a hold of her purse, "It's raining. You should stay the night." he offered sympathetically.
Matsu Takako looked cautiously at Kimura and said, "It's not raining."
"I know, but it sounded cool."
There was a piano in his living room and Takako looked at Kimura and asked, "Can you still play?"
"I wasn't very good, besides if I recall right you were the better piano player." The pair spoke of their days both being in the Long Vacation series, it was the first time both were paired up and both played such intense characters in love for all the wrong reasons. The series proved to be a smash and for years both were bound by the hip in the television world.
"Did you ever like working with Tokiwa-san?" Matsu asked cooly as she drank her tea.
Kimura didn't wait to think of an answer, "She was intense. She used that damn wheelchair to her advantage." Kimura laughed at his own joke. He was paired with Tokiwa Takako who played a wheelchair bound woman and while she didn't need a wheelchair in real life, she offen played the part of a cripple when taping stopped and insisted Kimura carry her around the set. It was also the first real smash hit Kimura had without Matsu Takako at his side and the public felt he finally had met a new match in the television world.
"I was going to get that part, but they wanted a new, younger face." Takako said sadly.
Kimura sat closer with Matsu Takako and looked at her with a big smile. He knew what he wanted to do. He wanted to hold her and hug her and let her know she was the best, he knew without he wouldn't have the big career he has now. This was insane.
Almost certainly a mistake. But Kimura went and held her tight and lightly kissed her on the cheek a few times. Takako began to move forward and kissed Kimura on the cheek and soon both made contact with their lips.
"We should work together again." Takako purred into Kimura's ear.
Kimura nodded uncertainly, but said nothing; wondering if he should just get off the couch and run down to his room and lock the door.
"Want to stop?" Takako asked.
"Yeah." Kimura said as he got off the couch and sat on the floor and smiled at the floor. "We should get to bed, it's late and the girls have school tomororw."
Takako said nothing.
The next morning in the school parking lot, Matsu Takako said from the backseat, "You don't want attention but you buy the biggest car in the world."
"Shove it!" Kimura said playfully as he parked and took the keys out of the car and removed his seatbelt and unsnapped Kokomi's. He got out of the car and went to the passenger side and went to open the door, but before he could the door banged open and Kokomi stepped out the car herself, "I can get out on my own." She said and took her father's hand. Before she shut the door she looked at Takako who sat in the backseat, "Mommmy isn't going to be happy that she's here, Dad." Before Kimura could reply, Kokomi slammed the door shut and lead her father down the sidewalk to her classroom.
Matsu Takako secretly hated how Kimura's daughter thought the world truly did revolve around her Mother.
Kimura came back and started the car, "Sorry about that. She just thinks your someone else. One of the girl's, Goro brings to the house." Kimura smiled and started to drive away, ""Shizuka always tells her to stay away from the Goro's girlfriends."
Kimura laughs and looks at Takako from his driver's mirror and notices she isn't smiling.
It's been three weeks and Matsu Takako is still staying at the house.
"It's really is differnt when someone hand washes the dishes." Kimura said as he held a cup up the light. "Shizuka never washes dishes by hand, says it isn't to good for the skin."
Takako was at the sink washing a pile of dishes, for the pass couple of days she started to cook at the meals. Kimura had some time off and was able to stay home and while Takako took care of the household; Kimura was able to spend more time with his daughters. He was happy and felt content. When he did have time off it was spent doing things around the house.
"I like this." Kimura said lying on the floor watching the television.
"What?" Takako dried her hands and went to the living room, "Seeing yourself on tv?"
Kimura took a good look at the screen and it was him on the TV on another drama series, he changed the channel, "Sorry, didn't realize I had it on that."
"Sure you didn't." Takako took a seat on the floor next to Kimura.
"No, I meant this. You. Here. Things are being taken care of, the girls are happy." Kimura rolled on his back and look at Takako with a grin. His arms were folded behind his head.
"What? A maid?" Takako said with a laugh and crawled on top of Kimura and kissed him on the cheek.
Kimura liked this girl around. He forgot while a singer and entertainer like himself and Shizuka; she was't at all high maintance like Shizuka and actaully liked to be a part of the family and the work that went along with running a house hold.
Both of the lied on the floor, holding hands. However, as supportive and encouraging as she was Kimura had a nagging feeling on the back of his mind about Shizuka and how much he had missed her.
After a while Kimura's silence forced her to look up and there stood in the doorway was Shizuka Kudo.

"I'm worried," the housekeeper said "this is scaring me. It's all so sudden."
Shizuka ignored the look and kept on packing, "It's alright, we're only going to be gone for a week. He's knows all about it, so there isn't a reason for concern." She buttons up her coat and tilts her head and gives a smile to her housekeeper Meiko. "I'll call as soon as we get to the airport." She pats Meiko's shoulder and signals for her to carry the luggage downstairs.
"I really wish you weren't going." Meiko says as she struggles with the bags.
"You know I have to do this."
"What? Do what?"
Shizuka smiled and pressed the issue, "The trip. I need a vacation, dear." She took the car keys out of her pocket and opened the trunk. She went to the driver's side and looked inside, Kokomi and Mitsuki both were sitting and waiting for their mother to get in. She waved hello to them and got into the vehicle. "Wave goodbye to Meiko." she told her childern as she drove away.
At the airport the wait felt like hell. Shizuka sliently wished she didn't wear her heels. Kokomi begged for a drink and Mitsuki had fallen asleep in her arms. The trio waited in line for over thirty minutes; she couldn't get out of line to buy Kokomi her drink. She felt drained and wished she had her hired help, but knew she had to do this alone.
When security did their checks, Shizuka bought Kokomi her favorite flavored drink and Mitsuki had woken up startled and started to cry. "You told me Daddy was going to be here when I woke up. Where is he?" Shizuka felt lost. She hated to admit it, but whenever Mitsuki cried or grew upset, she would hand her over to Meiko who would calm her down. Kokomi was never one to grow anxious and often sat and watched everything.
"Darling, please. Daddy is at work," Shizuka purred as she stroked her hair, "Take another nap and he'll be here next time." Mitsuki didn't look at her mother but watched Kokomi with the drink, "I want that! Where is mine?" Shizuka handed Kokomi some money and asked her to buy another. Shizuka watched her daughter walk off for another drink and wished she didn't feel such guilt.
After an hour, they boarded the plane. Mitsuki sat in the window seat, Shizuka was to the left of her, and Kokoki was stuck sitting in front of Shizuka. She refused to put on her seat belt and stood on the seat to make faces at Mitsuki who only cried for her Father. Shizuka was busy touching up her makeup and didn't notice that a woman was speaking to Kokomi.
"You look familar? I could swear it by the eyes." The woman looked closely at Kokomi, she stared a little long and Shizuka shut her makeup case and barked at the woman, "Your holding up the aisle, move along." The woman almost dropped her purse when she caught Shizuka's eye. " Y- your his wife.." she stuttered . Shizuka waved her hand to move her along, "I'm more than his wife, I have a name." and the woman was at a lost of words at how stern Shizuka acted.
"Mommy..." Kokomi stood on her seat and looked at her mother, "Daddy says to be nice to the girls, Daddy says their important in his life too." Shizuka scoffed, "Well Daddy should know there is only one important girl in his life."
"Don't you mean three?" The stewardess said off hand as she buckled Kokomi's seat belt.
Shizuka said nothing as the stewardess checked the trio's seat belts.
Back at home Meiko tried to call first Shizuka who had her phone off. It's been over three hours and she didn't call like she said she would. And while that was nothing new, it was well known in the household that whatever Shizuka said was to be taken with a grain of salt, but what concerned Meiko is that she took both of the childern with her or any other help. She tried her call their Father but the calls were only lead to his voice mailbox. She grew restless and while upstairs she cleaned up the master bedroom and noticed and she had taken off her wedding ring. It wasn't hard to miss; it was massive and pink and she'll never forget the argument the pair had gotten in about the size. She was upset that he didn't agree with the cut and he was furious over the fact she didn't want to accept the ring he had presented to her at their engagement. It was a ring his father had gotten from his father and had been kept in the family for years. So for Shizuka to not accept it, at least to wear through the engagement and save him face, it drove him mad. The day they bought the ring, Meiko witness the two going at it and Shizuka threating to flush the family heirloom down the toilet and Kimura ripping the new ring off her finger and throwing it out the bathroom window. She'll never forget the look on Shizuka's face. It was a look of rage, Shizuka's face was shiny with sweat as she barked at the maid to go hell and get the ring from outside while she was at it.
As a last resort Meiko did have this number, it was a number that she kept track of, since the owned of the number called at bizarre hours and asked only for Kimura. She didn't want to doubt the relationship of her bosses but she was aware both had someone on the outside. She dialed the number and a woman answered after six rings. "Is something wrong?" the female voice said. "I can call you, you don't call me." Meiko didn't know what to think and the phone almost slipped out of her grip.
"I have a problem.. I need to speak to .."
"Sorry. You've got the wrong number." the female said quickly in her deep voice.
"PLEASE. Don't hang up! It's a family problem!" Meiko shouted.
"I don't have a family."
There was only slience.
Meiko waited almost a few minutes. She didn't know if the woman was still on the line. She could hear some background noise.
"Shizuka is that you?" Kimura was on the phone, his voice sounded soft, almost tender.
More slience.
"Shizuka? Why did you call this number?" Kimura spoke slowly. Meiko could hear the woman singing in the background.
".. Kimura, this is Meiko. I called because of Shizuka." Meiko managed to choke out a response.
Kimura was silent. Then he asked quietly, "What did she do?"
"She's taken them!" Meiko cried and sobbed, "To the airport! She said you knew about it."
"That bitch," he muttered "I'm on my way to the house."
